Welcome to West Virginia Lions
District 29-O! We are a group of
volunteers that believe that "We Serve" is not just a motto, but is a
way of life. If you are thankful for all that you have and feel a need
to give back to the community that helps to make you successful, you
would probably be interested in Lions. The information that follows will
give you insights into the Lions. You will also find information of

Lions District 29-O
Lions District 29-O encompasses the 11 counties located in the SW quadrant of the State of West Virginia. These counties are: Boone, Cabell, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam, Roane, and Wayne. The District incorporates 43 separate Lions Clubs. For more information concerning these clubs go to "District Clubs" at the links listed on the left. Who are the Lions? The Lions are men and women dedicated to serving those in need, whether in their own community or half-way around the world. In addition to humanitarian service, they enjoy fellowship and develop leadership skills.
History
Founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1917, by businessman Melvin Jones. Lions Clubs International has been dedicated to helping those less fortunate in their communities and around the world. In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the members to be "Knights of the Blind." "We Serve" became the association's official motto in 1954. International Membership Lions Clubs International has more than 44,600 clubs in 202 countries and geographical areas. These Lions Clubs have nearly 1.35 million men and women members serving their communities and the world at large. Mission Statement "To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation." The Slogan "Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nations Safety." The Colors: Purple and Gold To Lions, Purple stands for loyalty to country, friends, one's self and the integrity of mind and heart. It is the traditional color of strength, courage, and tireless dedication to a cause. Gold symbolizes sincerity of purpose, liberality in judgment, purity in life and generosity in mind, heart, and purse towards those in need. Motto "We Serve"
